THE SAFE STREETS UNIT OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY IS PRIMARILY CONCERNED WITH BUILDING TRUST AND CONFIDENCE IN THE POLICE BY IDENTIFYING COMMUNITY PROBLEMS AND THEN CALLING UPON THE PROPER AGENCY TO AMELIORATE THEM.
Abstract
EIGHTEEN OFFICER AND CLERICAL PERSONS SERVE THE COMMUNITY THROUGH JUVENILE GUIDANCE, INVESTIGATING CLAIMS OF SUB-STANDARD GOODS OR SERVICES, FAMILY CRISIS GUIDANCE, AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT. THE SAFE STREETS UNIT ATTEMPTS TO AVOID THE AUTHORITARIAN IMAGES ASSOCIATED WITH THE STANDARD POLICE UNIFORM BY WEARING LOW KEY SPORTS JACKETS AND MATCHING SLACKS. THE HISTORY OF THE PROJECT IS GIVEN AND A NUMBER OF CASES AND ACTIVITIES ARE SYNOPSIZED. TRAINING OF PROJECT PERSONNEL, INNOVATIONS OF THE PROJECT AND AN EVALUATION OF THE PROJECT ARE PRESENTED.
