The Dade Justice Improvement Model, an informational system designed to simulate changes and forecast the impact of these changes on the criminal justice system of Dade County (Fla.), is described and applied to adult felony cases in Dade County during fiscal year 1990-91.
Abstract
The model synthesizes data from more than 47 criminal justice agencies for use as an analytical and managerial tool by policymakers and decisionmakers. Adapted from a model developed in the 1970's and subsequently modified, the model is an aggregate, linear, steady-state simulation model that can evaluate the impact of decisions on a systemwide basis. The model's three components are a flowchart, a case- flow analysis, and a resource analysis of time and other resources. The flow diagram depicting the model indicates major justice system processes. Figures indicating the use of the model with adult felony cases and criminal justice system expenditures for these cases are provided.
