This article chronicles a typical day in the Middlesex Multi-Door Courthouse in Cambridge, Massachusetts; the court program is based on a coordinated approach to dispute resolution within the administrative structure of the trial court and is one of several such programs in the United States.
Abstract
The Middlesex Multi-Door Courthouse began in 1989 and has several distinguishing features: diagnostic intake process, dispute resolution processes, and appropriate matching between case and door. The author describes a typical day as involving individual case screening conferences, walk-in cases, judicial hearing of motions, case rescheduling activities, mediation processes, case evaluation, case coordination between attorneys and court officials, discovery issues, damage and compensation decisions, and administrative work such as telephone calls and paperwork. 1 note
