PROJECT DOCUMENTATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE COMPUTERIZED POLICE REPORTING SYSTEM AT THE DAYTON, OHIO POLICE DEPARTMENT.
Abstract
PROJECT TELEPHONES (TELEPHONIC LAW ENFORCEMENT PHASED ON-LINE ENCODING SYSTEM) IS A TECHNICAL LAW ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM DESIGNED TO ALLOCATE ADDITIONAL TIME TO POLICE OFFICERS IN THE FIELD BY RELIEVING THEM OF THE TASK OF PREPARING WRITTEN REPORTS. THE TELEPHONE RECORDING SYSTEM UTILIZES AN ENDLESS LOOP TAPE RECORDER WHICH IS CAPABLE OF RECEIVING REPORTS FROM ANY TELEPHONE AND RECORDING THEM AUTOMATICALLY UNATTENDED BY A HUMAN OPERATOR. THIS PROJECT REPORT IS DIVIDED INTO TWO SECTIONS - PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND ATTACHMENTS. A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT IS PRESENTED ALONG WITH THE FUNDING AGENCIES AND PROJECT COSTS. THE ATTACHMENTS INCLUDE BUDGET INFORMATION, AN ARTICLE ENTITLED 'PROJECT TELEPHONES' WHICH APPEARED IN 'THE POLICE CHIEF', GRANT APPLICATIONS, A SECOND YEAR PROJECT REPORT, AND COMMENTS ON THE DATA MANAGEMENT PROGRAM, POLICE DATA AUTOMATION, AND SOURCE DATA MANAGEMENT. A PORTION OF THE DOCUMENT IS ALSO DEVOTED TO CRITERIA ACHIEVEMENT, OUTSTANDING FEATURES, WEAKNESSES, DEGREE OF SUPPORT, RECOMMENDATIONS AND ENDORSEMENTS.
