Abstract
THE AUTHOR'S MAIN CONCERNS ARE THE PSYCHOLOGICAL CIRCUMSTANCES AND SOCIAL AND FAMILY CONDITIONS LEADING TO HOMICIDE, THE TREATMENT OF THE YOUNG OFFENDERS WHILE IN PRISON, AND THE REACTION OF SOCIETY AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN RELEASED. A PSYCHIATRIC CONSULTANT IN VARIOUS PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS FOR 20 YEARS, THE AUTHOR DISTINGUISHES THE HOMICIDES INTO 2 CATEGORIES: INTRA-FAMILY, UNPREMEDITATED CRIMES OF PASSION; AND THOSE HOMICIDES OF STRANGERS OR DISTANT ACQUAINTANCES PROMPTED BY PECUNIARY OR OTHER MOTIVES. THESE PORTRAITS CONTAIN NO STATISTICS OR BROAD ANALYSIS, AND NO ATTEMPT IS MADE TO PRESENT A SCIENTIFIC CROSS-SAMPLE....MSP
