This paper examines some of the issues that continue to surround the debate on capital punishment and espouses its abolishment.
Abstract
The discussion argues against use of capital punishment because of the cruelty of the execution procedures, the primitiveness of retribution as a justifying motivation for executing murderers, and the fact that an implemented capital punishment policy has the appearance of State sanctioned murder. In lieu of the death penalty, enforced lifelong imprisonment should be the response of the State to its most heinous criminals. A total of 59 footnotes and 10 references are given.
