EXAMINATION OF STEPS THAT CAN EFFECTIVELY BE TAKEN TO REORIENT THE CAREER PATHS OF STUDENTS UNQUALIFIED FOR DIRECT EMPLOYMENT IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.
Abstract
THE CONCEPTS OF DECOUNSELING AND PROGRAMMED CAREER GUIDANCE CAN BE EFFECTIVELY UTILIZED TO CHANNEL AND RE-ORIENT THOSE INDIVIDUALS ENROLLED IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDUCATION PROGRAMS WHO WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ATTAIN RELATED EMPLOYMENT DUE TO PHYSICAL, MENTAL, OR LEGAL RESTRICTIONS. DECOUNSELING MUST OCCUR PRIOR TO CAREER GUIDANCE IN ORDER FOR THE STUDENT TO BE ABLE TO FULLY UNDERSTAND WHY HE/SHE WILL BE UNABLE TO FIND DIRECT EMPLOYMENT. THEN THE CAREER GUIDANCE ACTION WOULD SUGGEST ALTERNATIVE CAREER PATHS FOR WHICH THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO QUALIFY AS WELL AS UTILIZE THEIR CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDUCATION BACKGROUND. SUGGESTED CAREERS WOULD BE LAW, PLANNING, LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING, PUBLIC RELATIONS, AUDIO-VISUAL AND PHOTOGRAPHY SPECIALISTS, COMPUTER SCIENCE, AND ANY APPLIED SCIENCES UTILIZED IN CRIMINALISTICS.
