DESCRIPTION OF THE WHEATON AND NILES, ILLINOIS, SOCIAL SERVICE PROJECT AND A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FEDERAL DEFERRED PROSECUTION PLAN.
Abstract
THE PROJECT CONSISTS OF A UNIT OF PROFESSIONAL SOCIAL WORKERS WHO PROVIDE EVALUATION AND SOCIAL SERVICES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE ARRESTING OFFICER ALERTS THE STATE'S ATTORNEY'S OFFICE WHICH INVESTIGATES AND INTERVIEWS THE OFFENDER. IF THE CLIENT IS FOUND SUITABLE AND GIVES HIS CONSENT, HE BEGINS A COURSE OF SHORT TERM SOCIAL SERVICES. UPON A SATISFACTORY COMPLETION OF THE 8 MONTH PROGRAM, THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE WILL DROP CHARGES.
