This guide is designed to look at the Internet from a criminal justice perspective, serving as an extensive road map to the Web in locating the right information quickly, specifically high quality criminal justice related information for beginners and intermediate and advanced users.
Abstract
This guide attempts to provide a comprehensive resource to students in the disciplines of criminal justice and criminology as offered through the World Wide Web. The guide begins with a historical overview in the development of the Internet and the Web, as well as an introduction into the software, hardware, and the types of connections needed to participate in the world of Internet technology. Additional issues discussed included: E-mail, Web search engines, security issues, netiquette, and careers in criminal justice and criminology. Those features of the guide considered the most useful include an up-to-date and comprehensive list of Web resources and the catalog of career resources linking many government and private job sites through the Internet. The final chapter discusses the dedicated Talk Justice Web site which supports the guide by allowing visitors to leave messages for other site participants and participate in discussions with others regarding criminal justice-related issues. Communication between various branches of the criminal justice system have become much easier. In addition, the Talk Justice site contains all the links maintained in the guide with continuous updates. The guide facilitates criminal justice distance learning and enhances the ability of institutions of higher education, training academies, and others. The guide contains a full report of the NEW President’s Working Group on Unlawful Conduct on the Internet. Internet glossary and figures
