The fiscal year 1976 annual report for Delaware's Department of Correction highlights the activities and accomplishments during the year.
Abstract
This is the Department of Correction's first annual report since its establishment in 1975. The department is composed of a central office, and adult bureau, and a juvenile bureau. The adult bureau has responsibility for offenders age 18 and over; the juvenile bureau handles those committed prior to their 18th bithday. Both bureaus operate institutions and administer services in the community. Disbursements for each bureau and the Office of Administrative Services are presented for 1975, 1976, and 1977. Major accomplishments in the area of central administration were the development of a departmental monthly statistical report, the conduct of a number of surveys for proposed programs, the expansion of departmental training, progress in developing a departmental staff from what had been two separate administrative units, and the expansion of the Volunteers in Probation program into a statewide Volunteers in Correction program, thus including the institutions. Major accomplishments for the year are reported for the adult and juvenile bureaus, along with major service needs not being met, major operating problems, items of special interest, and major goals for fiscal year 1977 for the central office and the adult and juvenile bureaus. Tabular data are provided.
