PHASE 1 OF A PROGRAM AIMED AT DEVELOPING MEANS OF IDENTIFYING AND RE-ORIENTING DELINQUENCY-PRONE YOUTHS IN A HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY.
Abstract
THE PROJECT DESIGN FOLLOWS THE PRACTICE AS RESEARCH MODEL, USING UNIVERSITY GRADUATE STUDENTS AS BIG BROTHER TYPE COUNSELORS TO WORK WITH DELINQUENCY-PRONE YOUTH. EFFORTS WERE TO EFFECT APPROPRIATE BEHAVIORAL CHANGES IN THE SUBJECT POPULATION. CONCURRENTLY RESEARCH PROCEDURES WERE USED TO PROVIDE DATA FOR CONSTRUCTION OF TRAINING CURRICULUM. TWO DIAGNOSTIC AND EVALUATIVE TESTING INSTRUMENTS WERE USED. OF THESE, THE MINNESOTA MULTIPHASIC PERSONALITY INVENTORY (MMP1) PROVED TO BE A SENSITIVE INDICATOR OF DELINQUENCY PRONENESS, WHILE THE ROTTER 1-E SCALE DID NOT ADEQUATELY SERVE TO DISCRIMINATE THIS FEATURE.
