THIS POPULATION WAS INVESTIGATED AT INTERVALS OF 2 YEARS OR LESS FROM AGES 8 TO 20. INFORMATION ABOUT THIS SAMPLE'S LAW-BREAKING WAS COLLECT FROM OFFICIAL SOURCES, AND DELINQUENTS WERE IDENTIFIED AND DEFINED AS ALL THOSE WHO APPEARED BEFORE THE COURTS AND WERE FOUND GUILTY OF AN INDICTABLE OFFENSE OR OF A NON-INDICTABLE OFFENSE, DEALT WITH SUMMARILY, OR WHO WERE CAUTIONED BY THE POLICE FOR SUCH AN OFFENSE. THREE HUNDRED THIRTYSIX BOYS WERE SO DEFINED. TABULAR DATA IS PRESENTED ON THE INCIDENCE OF DELINQUENCY, AGE AT FIRST OFFENSE, TYPES OF OFFENSES, AND TREATMENT OF OFFENDERS.
