This compendium provides information on a combination of traditional and innovative juvenile delinquency prevention programs mounted by local juvenile probation departments in Texas.
Abstract
The programs include examples of primary, secondary, and tertiary programs and services. The programs are presented under 22 broad topics. They include early intervention/first referral programs, court volunteer programs, parenting and family preservation programs, life skills programs, mentor and educational programs, outdoor adventure programs, community volunteer programs, restitution programs, victim assistance programs, and HIV/STD awareness programs. Other program categories pertain to substance abuse, behavioral management, gang prevention, border concerns, runaways and truants, mental health/mental retardation, sex offenders, intensive supervision and at-home detention, day treatment and school-based programs, residential programs, and Operation Outreach as well as other law enforcement programs. Information for each program encompasses name and location, other agencies involved, prevention level (primary, secondary, tertiary), progressive sanctions level served, objectives/goals, program results, target population, number served per year, program cost per year, and contact person.
