This report defines the key facilitators and barriers to delivering neighborhood policing to help practitioners in delivering local community safety services.
Abstract
This report describes the nature of neighborhood policing partnerships in six local areas which were identified as having a strongly embedded partnership approach. Findings show that delivering neighborhood policing in partnership is viewed positively by partners and local residents with one of the potential benefits including perceived opportunities to deliver more efficiently. This study examines the processes surrounding implementation, operation and governance of the exemplar sites; identifies key facilitators and barriers to successful joining up between neighborhood management and neighborhood policing; suggests approaches that could be adopted in other areas; and examines the perceived impact of the neighborhood policing partnership approach on partners and residents, particularly in terms of productivity, efficiency and confidence in partner agencies. These findings build on the findings from previous research on working in partnership where leadership, good communication and information sharing between partners all facilitated effective delivery. Case studies of the six areas were conducted between January and August 2010. Table and references
