AN ASSESSMENT OF THIS PROJECT WHICH PROVIDES A SMALL GROUP COEDUCATIONAL PLACEMENT ALTERNATIVE FOR 14- TO 18YEAR-OLD YOUTHS WHO HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THEIR NATURAL HOME DUE TO THEIR BEHAVIOR OR HOME ENVIRONMENT PROBLEMS.
Abstract
THE MAJOR OBJECTIVE OF THE HOME IS TO PROVIDE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THE CHILDREN CAN GAIN AN INCREASED SENSE OF SELF-WORTH AND CONFIDENCE. MORE SPECIFIC PROJECT GOALS WERE TO PROVIDE NECESSARY PROFESSIONAL HELP, TO HAVE THE CHILD PARTICIPATE IN MEANINGFUL ACTIVITIES, TO HAVE THE CHILD INVOLVED IN AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM, TO HAVE THE CHILD FIND AND MAINTAIN EMPLOYMENT, TO HAVE THE CHILD SPEND MONEY WISELY, AND TO HAVE THE CHILD DEVELOP HEALTHY, NON-EXPLOITATIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE OPPOSITE SEX. THE EVALUATION FOCUSED ON DETERMINING THE TYPE OF CLIENTS SERVED, THE NEED FOR SERVICE, AND THE VALUE OF SERVICES PROVIDED. EVALUATION METHODS CONSISTED OF A REVIEW OF CLIENT RECORDS, INTERVIEWS WITH CLIENTS, PERSONALITY TESTS OF CLIENTS, REVIEWS OF JUVENILE PROBATION RECORDS, AND ON-SITE VISITS TO THE PROGRAM. THE PERFORMANCE OF THE HOUSEPARENTS, THE IN-HOUSE DISCIPLINE STRUCTURE OF REWARDS AND PUNISHMENTS, AND HOME ATMOSPHERE WERE FOUND TO BE GOOD. GOAL ACHIEVEMENT IN GENERAL WAS ALSO FOUND TO BE SATISFACTORY. BASED ON THE AVAILABLE EVIDENCE THE EVALUATOR CONCLUDES THAT THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN EFFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE CONTINUED.
