THIS BOOK TELLS WHAT DENTAL EVIDENCE IS, WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE, WHEN AND IN WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES IT MAY BE FOUND, AND WHAT TO DO WITH IT UNTIL IT IS TURNED OVER TO THE DENTIST FOR EVALUATION.
Abstract
IT GIVES ALL OF THE DENTAL AND SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND NECESSARY FOR A POLICE OFFICER TO WORK WITH DENTAL EVIDENCE, INCLUDING BRIEFINGS IN SUCH SUBJECTS AS DENTAL ANATOMY, GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT, DENTAL PHYSIOLOGY, AND DENTAL MATERIALS. AS IT DESCRIBES EACH SITUATION IN WHICH DENTAL EVIDENCE MAY BE IMPORTANT, IT TELLS IN STEP-BYSTEP MANNER WHAT SHOULD BE DONE TO PROPERLY RECORD AND PRESERVE THIS TYPE OF EVIDENCE AND HOW TO HANDLE AND CORRECTLY MANIPULATE THE DENTAL MATERIALS USED TO PRESERVE THIS EVIDENCE. THIS BOOK DELINEATES THE ROLES OF THE POLICE OFFICER, THE DENTIST, AND THE MEDICAL EXAMINER AND INCLUDES SAMPLES OF FORENSIC DENTAL CHARTS AND A RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT LIST. AS THE MATERIALS USED TO PRESERVE DENTAL EVIDENCE REQUIRE SKILL TO MANIPULATE, THE LATTER PORTION OF DENTAL EVIDENCE DETAILS IN STEP-BY-STEP MANNER, BOTH HOW TO USE THEM AND HOW NOT TO USE THEM; AND WHEN TO USE OR NOT TO USE EACH TYPE OF MATERIAL. THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES BOTH THE MAJOR CHARACTERISTICS OF THESE MATERIALS AND THEIR MORE TROUBLESOME IDIOSYNCRASIES, AND HOW TO AVOID THE DIFFICULTIES THAT THEY CAN CAUSE. IN MOST CASES EACH STEP INVOLVED IS ACCOMPANIED BY AN ILLUSTRATION. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT) (SNI ABSTRACT)...PO
