THIS 1979 ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE DENVER POLICE DEPARTMENT CONTAINS INFORMATION ON ITS ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND PERSONNEL, CRIMES, ARRESTS, THE JUVENILE DELINQUENCY PREVENTION UNIT, AND THE PEDESTRIAN SAFETY PROJECT.
Abstract
THE REPORT INCLUDES LISTS OF THE MAYOR'S CABINET AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS, LETTERS FROM THE MANAGER OF SAFETY AND THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO THE MAYOR, AND WINNERS OF THE MEDAL OF HONOR AND THE POLICE SERVICE CROSS. THE DEPARTMENT ORGANIZATION HAS 1,396 SWORN PERSONNEL AND 288 CIVILIAN PERSONNEL. THE REPORT DESCRIBES THE STRUCTURE OF THE PATROL, INVESTIGATION, TRAFFIC, JUVENILE, TECHNICAL SERVICES, AND ADMINISTRATION DIVISIONS. STATISTICAL DATA INCLUDES RADIO ROOM REPORTS AND REQUESTS FOR SERVICE FROM 1976 THROUGH 1979; CLASS 1 AND CLASS 2 OFFENSES FOR 1978 AND 1979 BY DISTRICT; OFFENSES FOR 1979 BY PRECINCT; A CRIME GRAPH FROM 1970 TO 1979; ADULT AND JUVENILE ARRESTS BY AGE AND SEX AND BY RACE AND OFFENSE FOR 1979; JUVENILE RECIDIVISM FOR 1979; DENVER'S ETHNIC COMPOSITION; TRAFFIC OFFENSES, ACCIDENTS, ARRESTS, AND CITATIONS; OFFICERS KILLED OR ASSAULTED IN 1979; AND PERSONNEL PROFILES. THE JUVENILE DELINQUENCY PREVENTION UNIT CONSISTS OF 12 OFFICERS, 2 SERGEANTS, A LIEUTENANT, AN ADMINISTRATIVE CLERK, A POLICE STATISTICIAN, AND AN EVALUATION CONSULTANT. THE PROJECT INCLUDES DIRECTED PATROL, STREET LEVEL DIVERSION, YOUTH GROUP INTERVENTION, AND CHILD ABUSE/NEGLECT INTERVENTION. IN 1979, THE UNIT MADE 415 JUVENILE CONTACT CARDS AND 338 JUVENILE CASE SUMMARIES. THE PEDESTRIAN SAFETY PROJECT ENTAILS EDUCATION, ENFORCEMENT, AND ENGINEERING IN ORDER TO CUT DOWN PEDESTRIAN FATALITIES. TABLES, GRAPHS, PHOTOGRAPHS AND A MAP ARE INCLUDED.
