A PROJECT DESCRIPTION IS GIVEN, AND EVALUATION RESULTS FOR EACH OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAM ARE PRESENTED, SHOWING SUBSTANTIAL PROGRAM SUCCESS FOR THIS TIME PERIOD.
Abstract
OPERATION IDENTIFICATION IS A BURGLARY PREVENTION PROGRAM IN WHICH THE POLICE MARK VALUABLE ITEMS WITH ENGRAVING TOOLS AND MAINTAIN INVENTORIES OF THESE ITEMS. THE FIRST OBJECTIVE OF REDUCING BURGLARY IN THE PROGRAM DISTRICT BY 10 PERCENT WAS FOUND TO BE ACHIEVED. EVALUATION WAS ACCOMPLISHED BY COMPARING BURGLARY RATES FOR THE PROGRAM PERIOD TO RATES FOR THE PREVIOUS YEAR. COMPARISONS WERE ALSO MADE BETWEEN BURGLARY RATES FOR PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS, RATES FOR OTHER AREAS AND RATES FOR THOSE HOMES NOT PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM. THE PROJECT EXCEEDED ITS GOAL FOR ENROLLMENT, WHICH WAS 25 PERCENT. THE OBJECTIVE OF ACHIEVING AN INCREASE OF 50 PERCENT IN RECOVERY OF ID-MARKED ITEMS WAS NOT APPLICABLE, SINCE ONLY EIGHT MARKED ITEMS WERE STOLEN OF THE TOTAL OF 283 MARKED ITEMS AMONG THOSE HOMES BURGLARIZED. NEITHER THE GOAL OF INCREASING CLEARANCES OR THE GOAL OF DECREASING CITIZEN APPREHENSION OF BEING BURGLARIZED COULD BE EVALUATED DUE TO LACK OF DATA.
