Abstract
THIS VOLUME CONTAINS DEMOGRAPHIC DATA ABOUT SEVEN MAJOR CATEGORIES OF POPULATION CHARACTERISTICS RELATED TO THE RESIDENTS OF 40 OF A TOTAL OF 124 DENVER CENSUS TRACTS WHICH WERE JUDGED HIGHLY VULNERABLE TO STRANGER-TO-STRANGER CRIME. DATA IS PRESENTED ON GEOGRAPHICAL, POPULATION, EDUCATIONAL, AND HOUSING CHARACTERISTICS; EMPLOYMENT AND WELFARE; AND TRANSPORTATION AND LOCATION OF EMPLOYMENT. THE BULK OF THIS VOLUME CONSISTS OF NARRATIVE DESCRIPTIONS OF EACH OF THE HIGH CRIME CENSUS TRACTS. THE TEST OF EACH CENSUS TRACT NARRATIVE INCLUDES A MAP OF THE CITY IDENTIFYING THE LOCATION OF THE TRACT, AN ENLARGED MAP OF THE CENSUS TRACT WITHIN ITS NEIGHBORHOOD AREA AND DEPICTING LAND USAGE, A NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF THE TRACT BASED ON SOCIO-ECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS STANDARDIZED BY THE BUREAU OF CENSUS AND A CHART OF THE AGE BREAKDOWN OF THE CITIZENS BY SEX. APPENDIX A CONTAINS A COMPUTER GENERATED SUMMARY OF THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF ALL CENSUS TRACTS IN THE CITY. THE DATA DESCRIBED IN THE NARRATIVE IS ALSO PRESENTED IN TABULAR FORM IN APPENDIX B. THE EXPLANATION OF ADDITIONAL COMPUTATIONS WITH THE CENSUS TRACT DATA AND THE VARIOUS SOURCES FOR EACH CATEGORY OF DATA APPEARS IN APPENDIX C. FOR VOLUMES ONE AND FOUR, SEE NCJ-36107 AND 109.
