This document describes Colorado constitutional rights for victims of crime for which the Office of the District Attorney (DA) is responsible.
Abstract
The document details crimes covered by the constitutional amendment for victim rights, critical stages in the criminal justice process and stages at which victims have the right to be heard. All of those items are specific to the responsibilities of the Deputy District Attorneys themselves. Other responsibilities assigned to the Office are fulfilled by the Victim/Witness Staff. A separate document provides 1994 Commentary on Policies and Procedures to Comply with the requirements of constitutional rights statutes. The Commentary includes: (1) 30 crimes covered by the enabling legislation; (2) 7 additional violations included by the DA's Office; (3) Critical stages that apply to the DA's Office; (4) rights afforded to victims that involve the DA's Office; and (5) procedures for assuring rights of victims of crime that involve the DA's Office.
