QUANTITATIVE DESCRIPTION OF THE FLOW THROUGH THE SYSTEM, THE RESOURCES APPLIED TO THE FLOW AND DATA ON THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE AND COST OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM.
Abstract
THIS REPORT PRESENTS A QUANTITATIVE DESCRIPTION OF THE COUNTY'S CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM (CJS). THIS DESCRIPTION DEPICTS BY A 'FLOW DIAGRAM' THE VARIOUS PROCESSING 'STAGES' WITHIN THE CJS, THE WAY INDIVIDUALS FLOW THROUGH THESE VARIOUS PARTS OF THE SYSTEM, AND THE NUMBERS OF INDIVIDUALS MOVING THROUGH EACH POSSIBLE FLOW PATH FOR EACH TYPE OF CRIME. AS 'UNITS OF WORK' (E.G., REPORTED OFFENSES, ARRESTEES, DEFENDANTS, CASES, OFFENDERS) FLOW THROUGH THE SYSTEM, 'RESOURCES' (E.G., POLICEMEN, PROSECUTORS, DETENTION CELLS, COURTROOMS, JUDGES, PROBATION OFFICERS, PRISON CELLS) ARE APPLIED TO PROCESS THEM. THUS, IN ADDITION TO DESCRIBING THE FLOW THROUGH THE CJS THIS REPORT PROVIDES DATA ON THE RESOURCES APPLIED AND ON THE COSTS INCURRED. THESE RESOURCES EXPENDITURES ARE ANALYZED BY CRIME TYPE AND BY SUBSYSTEM OF THE TOTAL CJS. AUTHOR ABSTRACT
