This article describes technological developments that assist in detecting contraband smuggling.
Abstract
Ancore, a spin-off of the Science Applications International Corporation, has developed material-specific inspection technologies that can non-intrusively and automatically detect and identify explosives, narcotics, chemical weapons, hazardous chemicals, and most smuggled goods. The company's patented technology can identify a material by its specific composition in virtually any type carrier to effectively assist in law enforcement's fight against terrorists, drug traffickers, and smugglers of contraband. The Ancore line of products uses Pulsed Fast Neutron Analysis and Thermal Neutron Analysis. These technologies offer better detection capabilities than physical searches and x-ray technology. They also provide answers to problems of limited operator experience, operator fatigue or corruption of human operators. The article describes small parcel detection, the vehicular detection system, mine detection, cargo inspection and operator training.
