This paper compares the use of deterrence as a method of social control in the United States and China.
Abstract
The comparison includes the assumptions and prerequisites that lead to such a difference, and the different strategies used to achieve control. In general, in the United States the consequences of exhibiting a deviant behavior or violation of social norms are explicit and concrete. In China the consequences of exhibiting a deviant behavior or violation of social norms are implicit and vague. (Publisher abstract)
