REPORT OF A FEDERALLY FUNDED PROJECT AWARDED TO THE DETROIT (MI) POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR ESTABLISHING POLICE PARAPROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICERS.
Abstract
THE OFFICERS ARE FIELD WORKERS WHO ASSIST POLICE BY RELIEVING THEM OF INCIDENTAL AND NON-LAW ENFORCEMENT ACTIVITIES SUCH AS REPORTING HEALTH AND SAFETY HAZARDS AND HANDLING CITIZEN REFERRALS. THESE DUTIES PREPARE INCUMBENTS TO QUALIFY AS PATROLMEN. THIS REPORT BY THE DETROIT POLICE DEPARTMENT COVERS APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS, JOB DESCRIPTIONS, SELECTION CRITERIA, PROJECT MANAGEMENT, EVALUATIONS, PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED, COMMUNITY FEEDBACK, AND CONCLUSIONS CONCERNING THE SUCCESS AND FUTURE OF THE PROJECT.
