Abstract
THE PROGRAM IS AIMED AT THOSE PREDISPOSED TOWARD ALCOHOL ABUSE AND THOSE WHO ARE ALREADY ABUSERS BUT WHO HAVE A SUBSTANTIAL SUCCESS RISK FOR BREAKING OUT OF ABUSE PATTERNS. PROBLEM AREAS THAT NEED TO BE EVALUATED AND DEALT WITH PRIOR TO PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION ARE IDENTIFIED AS POLITICAL POWERS DOMINATING PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT, CORRECTIONAL STAFF, DIAGNOSTIC CENTERS, PHYSICAL STRUCTURE OF THE INSTITUTION, AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE INMATE POPULATION. THE PROGRAM DEVELOPED DEALS WITH SECONDARY PREVENTION THROUGH EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT. THE THREE POINT PROGRAM INCLUDES PRESENTATION OF SUBSTANTIATED SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION REGARDING ALCOHOL TO INMATES, PRESENTATION OF AN OPPORTUNITY FOR CLIENTS TO EVALUATE THE DEPTH OF THEIR INVOLVEMENT WITH ALCOHOL, AND PROVISION OF ALTERNATIVES AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES TO THOSE WHO FEEL THEY HAVE A PROBLEM. ALTERNATIVES DISCUSSED INCLUDE POSITIVE SUPPORT GROUPS TO REDEVELOP SOCIALIZATION PATTERNS FOR THE ALCOHOL ABUSER.
