KEY FEATURES OF THE COMPREHENSIVE AUTOMATED INFORMATION SYSTEM DESIGNED FOR USE BY THE U.S. ATTORNEY IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA TO FACILITATE CASE PROCESSING.
Abstract
THE SYSTEM, IMPLEMENTED IN 1971, INTEGRATES THE OPERATIONAL DEMANDS PLACED UPON THE PROSECUTOR, WITH MODERN STATISTICAL ANALYSIS AND COMPUTER INFORMATION, STORAGE, AND RETRIEVAL. IT PROVIDES A PRIORITY CASE LISTING WHICH ORDERS CASES ACCORDING TO A WEIGHTING SYSTEM, POINTS OUT SPECIFIC PROSECUTORY PROBLEMS IN EACH CASE, AND AIDS IN CASE SCHEDULING. THE SYSTEM AUTOMATICALLY NOTIFIES GOVERNMENT WITNESSES AS TO APPEARANCE TIMES, WHILE RESOLVING WITNESS SCHEDULING CONFLICTS. LASTLY, THE SYSTEM PROVIDES INFORMATION ON THE WHOLE PROSECUTORY PROCESS. WHEN TIED IN WITH POLICE AND CORRECTIONS INFORMATION SYSTEMS, IT WILL HAVE A MANAGEMENT EVALUATION AND RESEARCH CAPABILITY FOR THE TOTAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROCESS IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
