This manual assists employers in planning and implementing a domestic violence policy for the workplace and improving the safety of the workplace and enhancing product quality.

Abstract

It is reported that 66 percent of senior executives, 78 percent of human resource directors, and 94 percent of corporate security directors have noted the significant impact of domestic violence on individuals, coworkers, and the workplace. However, only 5 to 10 percent of today's companies employ a domestic violence workplace policy. This manual created by the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) is intended to assist employers in developing and implementing a domestic violence policy for the workplace. The manual is divided into eight main sections: (1) reasons for creating a domestic violence policy; (2) determining what is domestic violence; (3) creating a workplace policy in six steps; (4) resources to accompany the policy; (5) checklist of policy creation tasks; (6) NCSC's Domestic Violence Policy and Resources; (7) resources for policy planners; and (8) technical assistance from NCSC.
