THIS REPORT DISCUSSES THE LEAA-SPONSORED DEVELOPMENT OF AN AUDIOVISUAL PRESENTATION ON 911 EMERGENCY TELEPHONE SERVICE AND COVERS COSTS AND PRODUCTION DETAILS.
Abstract
THE AUDIOVISUAL PRESENTATION CONTAIMS A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF SINGLE EMERGENCY NUMBERS, AN ACCOUNT OF THE VALUE OF 911 SERVICE, THE STATUS OF 911, EXAMPLES OF IMPLEMENTATION, APPROACHES TO 911 DEVELOPMENT AND THEIR PROBLEMS, AND SOURCES OF 911 INFORMATION. THE PRESENTATION IS COMPOSED OF 93 SLIDES, A SCRIPT AND CASSETTE RECORDING OF THE SCRIPT, AND A SLIDE CAROUSEL, AND LASTS ABOUT 1/2 HOUR. IT IS BELIEVED THAT MORE EXTENSIVE PRESENTATIONS ON SPECIFIC 911 FEATURES SHOULD BE DEVELOPED LATER. THREE ANCILLARY CONSIDERATIONS DISCUSSED ABOUT THE PRESENTATION ARE (1) DECIDING THE TYPE OF SIGNAL TO USE ON THE AUDIO CASSETTES (AUDIBLE OR INAUDIBLE) (2) COSTS AND FEASIBILTY OF MAKING MANY COPIES; AND (3) DISTRIBUTION COSTS. INAUDIBLE SIGNALS ARE RECOMMENDED OVER AUDIBLE TO SIGNIFY A CHANGE IN SLIDE; AUDIBLE SIGNALS ARE DISTRACTING AND SLIDE SHOW PRESENTERS MAY USE A SCRIPT TO KEEP SLIDES SYNCHRONIZED WITH THE SCRIPT. IT IS ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT LARGE NUMBERS OF THE PRESENTATION NOT BE MADE AT THIS TIME, SINCE DEMAND IS UNCERTAIN AND THE INFORMATION QUICKLY BECOMES DATED. ONE AUDIOVISUAL PRESENTATION WILL COST $751, THE CASSETTE BEING $3.50 EXTRA. INFORMATION IS ALSO PRESENTED ON THE COST AND MEANS OF DISTRIBUTING THE PRESENTATION. APPENDIXES CONTAIN THE SCRIPT.
