The accomplishments of Georgia's Organized Crime Prevention Council are presented in this report for 1972.
Abstract
The major goal of the council was to develop and coordinate stategies for attacking and controlling organized crime. This was to be accomplished, in part, by improving intelligence resources in State and local agencies responsible for combating organized crime. The council's main accomplishments included fully implementing the Georgia State Intelligence Network obtaining LEAA funding for a full-time staff, funding 13 local law enforcement intelligence units, and conducting training sessions for intelligence agents. The council also coordinated the first confidential summaries and bimonthly confidential reports on organized crime in the State for need-to-know officials, gave technical assistance to other States interested in creating similar councils, and cosponsored the National Association of Citizens Crime Commissions' annual meeting. Furthermore, the council briefed the business and academic communities and the general public on numerous occasions. Letters and comments on the activities of the council, and the agenda of a 1972 conference on organized crime are included.
