STRATEGY OF IN-SERVICE TRAINING TO BRING ABOUT IMPROVEMENT AND CHANGE IN CORRECTIONS.
Abstract
BRIDGING THE GULF BETWEEN THE BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES AND PRACTICE IN THE CORRECTIONAL FIELD IS THE PRIMARY GOAL. OTHER OBJECTIVES ARE TO GIVE THE CORRECTIONAL TRAINER A FRAMEWORK OF KNOWLEDGE FROM WHICH TO ASSESS CURRENT TRENDS IN CORRECTIONS, PROVIDE TRAINING IN LEARNING PRINCIPLES, HUMAN BEHAVIOR, COMMUNICATION PROCEDURES, AND TEACHING TECHNOLOGY, AFFORD PRACTICE IN TEACHING UNDER SUPERVISION USING THE KNOWLEDGE AND TOOLS GAINED, AND DEMONSTRATE HOW TRAINING EFFECTIVELY CARRIED OUT CAN BE A TOOL FOR CHANGING CORRECTIONAL PRACTICE.
