Abstract
THE ARTICLE BEGINS BY DISCUSSING THE PROVISION UNDER THE MODEL SENTENCING ACT WHEREBY A DEFENDANT CLASSIFIED AS A MEMBER OF ORGANIZED CRIME MAY BE SENTENCED TO A TERM OF IMPRISONMENT UP TO THIRTY YEARS REGARDLESS OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE UNDERLYING FELONY. ALSO COVERED ARE RECENT ACTIONS BY THE U.S. BOARD OF PAROLE AND COURT DECISIONS ON SEARCHES INCIDENT TO PROBATION AND PAROLE REVOCATION PROCEEDINGS. OTHER JUDICIAL DECISIONS REVIEWED INCLUDE THOSE CONCERNING CORRECTIONAL DISCIPLINARY HEARINGS, PAROLE RELEASE DATES, PROMPTNESS OF HEARINGS, AND JUVENILE RIGHTS.
