This article provides an overview of the authors' book, "Developments in Criminal Law in Europe 1989-1992 -- Observations and Trends" (1993/94).
Abstract
This book will contain 23 national reports on legislation, reform projects, court cases, and literature in the field of substantive criminal law, subsidiary criminal law, criminal procedure, prison law, human rights, and international law of some of the eastern and western European states. This overview focuses on the "Special Part of the Criminal Law." Types of offenses discussed include crimes against humanity/control of military weapons, political crimes and crimes against public order (terrorism), homicide and personal injury offenses (torture, euthanasia), and the protection of children and vulnerable persons (groups). Other types of offenses discussed pertain to pornography and representation of violence, sexual offenses, white-collar crimes, and property offenses. Subcategories of white-collar crimes and property offenses discussed are property and related offenses (theft and handling in stolen goods); fraud, dishonest dealings, and related offenses; computer crime; financial criminal law; industrial espionage; and money laundering. Other offenses discussed are corruption and offenses by public officials, organized crime, and the protection of privacy. 187 footnotes
