Abstract
THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE STUDENT, RESEARCHER, OR PRACTITIONER CONTINUALLY MEETS IN HIS OR HER WORK CERTAIN WORDS, NAMES, COURT CASES, PHRASES, AND TERMS THAT BY THEIR SELECTIVE NATURE HAVE SPECIAL MEANING. THIS DICTIONARY COMPILES IN ONE VOLUME INFORMATION TO MEET THIS NEED, AND IN SOME CASES, TO PROVIDE DATA THAT COULD OTHERWISE BE FOUND ONLY BY A TEDIOUS SEARCH THROUGH A MYRIAD OF INTERDISCIPLINARY LITERATURE. ALTHOUGH NOT COMPREHENSIVE IN SCOPE, THE DICTIONARY COMBINES MEDICAL, LEGAL, FORENSIC, SOCIOLOGICAL, ANTHROPOLOGICAL, AND SELECTED MANAGEMENT TERMS COMMON TO THE BROAD, INTERDISCIPLINARY FIELD OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE. TO REDUCE THE OVERALL LENGTH, CROSS-REFERENCES HAVE BEEN MINIMIZED BY LISTING MOST MULTIPLE-WORD ENTRIES UNDER THEIR FIRST WORD. WHEREVER APPROPRIATE, DEFINITIONS PROVIDED BY GENERALLY RECOGNIZED SOURCES SUCH AS 'TERMS AND DEFINITIONS FOR POLICE PATROL CARS' ARE USED TO AVOID PROLIFERATION AND DUPLICATION. (KBL)
