Abstract
THE INVESTIGATION ATTEMPTED TO DETERMINE HOW FIVE GROUPS OF INDIVIDUALS PERCEIVED THE PRISON AS ACTUALLY OPERATING AND HOW THEY BELIEVED IT SHOULD OPERATE. THREE CATEGORIES OF MEMBERS OF THE PRISON ASSOCIATION WERE REPRESENTED BY TRUSTEE INMATES, CLOSE SECURITY INMATES, AND CUSTODIAL OFFICERS. THE STUDY ALSO INCLUDED A SAMPLE OF JURISTS AND SMALL BUSINESSMEN. DATA WERE GATHERED THROUGH THE USE OF QUESTIONNAIRES. THE RESULTS WERE ANALYZED WITH RESPECT TO BETWEEN GROUP IMAGE VARIATION AND WITHIN GROUP IMAGE VARIATION. APPENDED MATERIAL INCLUDES INFORMATION RELATING TO THE QUESTIONNAIRES USED AND RESPONSE PATTERN TABLES.
