MULTIVARIATE ANALYSIS OF CASE STUDY DATA FROM MENTAL HOSPITALS AND CORRECTIONS INSTITUTIONS IS EMPLOYED TO DETERMINE WHICH FACTORS CONTRIBUTE MOST STRONGLY TO THE CHOICE OF COMMITMENT INSTITUTION FOR JUVENILES.
Abstract
THE CHOICE OF INSTITUTION WILL DETERMINE WHETHER THE JUVENILE IS LABELED A JUVENILE DELINQUENT OR MENTALLY DISTURBED OFFENDER. DELINQUENCY INTENSITY - A FUNCTION OF THE NUMBER AND GRAVITY OF PRIOR OFFENSES OVER TIME - WAS FOUND TO BE THE STRONGEST DETERMINANT OF TYPE OF COMMITMENT. THE INSTITUTIONS STUDIED ARE LOCATED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.
