VOICE RADIO TRAFFIC BETWEEN MOBILE UNITS AND BASE STATIONS IN LOS ANGELES WERE STUDIED TO DETERMINE THE NUMBER AND TYPE OF VOICE TRAFFIC MESSAGES THAT WOULD BE SUITABLE FOR DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS TRANSMISSION.
Abstract
THE REPORT IDENTIFIES THE TYPES OF MESSAGES INVOLVED AND PROVIDES MEASURES OF THE FREQUENCY OF USE AND LENGTH OF AIR TIME. MEASURES OF THE EFFICIENCY OF USE OF CHANNEL CAPACITY AND THE MESSAGE QUEUING THAT RESULTS FROM CHANNEL LOADING ARE THEN DERIVED. FINALLY, THE REPORT DISCUSSES THE POTENTIAL IMPROVEMENT WHICH CAN BE REALIZED BY CONVERTING TO DIGITAL TRANSMISSION TECHNIQUES. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
