ILLUSTRATED PROCEDURES FOR HANDLING COMMON TRAFFIC SITUATIONS, FROM TWO STREET INTERSECTIONS TO THE MORE COMPLEX MULTI-STREET CROSSINGS.
Abstract
EXPEDITING THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC THROUGH INTERSECTIONS DURING NORMAL RUSH HOURS IS ONE OF MANY TASKS WHICH MOST POLICEMAN MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM. STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ARE PROVIDED FOR MAINTAINING AN EVEN FLOW OF TRAFFIC, SPOTTING POTENTIAL TROUBLE SPOTS, AVOIDING JAMS, AND UNTANGLING ANY CONGESTION WHICH DOES OCCUR. THE IMPORTANCE OF COORDINATING TRAFFIC AT ONE INTERSECTION WITH ADJACENT STREETS IS STRESSED, AS IS THE NECESSITY FOR MAINTAINING COMPOSURE IN WHAT MAY BE A FRUSTRATING SITUATION. THE PREVENTION OF MIDBLOCK TRAFFIC JAMS IS ALSO DISCUSSED, AS WELL AS THE NECESSITY FOR COORDINATION BETWEEN TWO OFFICERS ASSIGNED TO THE SAME INTERSECTION. (SNI ABSTRACT)
