THIS DIRECTORY CONTAINS INFORMATIONAL LISINGS OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIVERSION PROGRAMS IN THE UNITED STATES, BOTH UNDER DEVELOPMENT AND OPERATIONAL.
Abstract
IT COVERS PROGRAMS ADMINISTERED BY POLICE DEPARTMENTS, PROSECUTORS, PUBLIC DEFENDER AGENCIES, COURTS, PROBATION, AND COMMUNITY-BASED PUBLIC SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS. THE DIRECTORY WILL PROVIDE ITS USERS WITH THE LOCATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF SITES PLANNING DIVERSION STRATEGIES AS WELL AS A DESCRIPTION OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF OPERATIONAL PROGRAMS. THE DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTIC SHARED BY MOST PROGRAMS FEATURES ELEMENTS OF CONTEMPORARY DIVERSION PRACTICE INCLUDING: FORMALIZED SCREENING AND PLACEMENT CRITERIA; A STRUCTURED DELIVERY OF SERVICES PLAN FOR JOB DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE, COUNSELING, VOCATIONAL SKILLS TRAINING, REMEDIAL EDUCATION, AND RELATED EMPLOYABILITY RESOURCES; AND DISMISSAL OF CRIMINAL CHARGES AND ARREST RECORD MODIFICATION FOR SUCCESSFUL PARTICIPANTS. THE 143 PROGRAMS ARE LISTED BY STATE AND CITY. EACH PROJECT'S ADDRESS, DIRECTOR'S NAME, ADMINISTERING AGENCY, AND OPERATIONAL STATUS IS LISTED.
