This directory presents brief descriptions of 46 proven correctional programs throughout the Nation that target a variety of offender needs.
Abstract
The programs are categorized by State and include listings of contact persons in addition to program descriptions. For Arizona there are three programs: one that targets violent juveniles, a second that focuses on serious/chronic juvenile offenders, and a third that provides comprehensive behavioral health services within a managed care environment. Arkansas has a sex offender treatment program that uses cognitive-behavioral treatment techniques, and California has the Jobs Plus program, which provides male and female adult parolees with a continuum of comprehensive support services, job development/placement, and follow-up assistance. Two programs are included for Colorado; one is a secure treatment program for serious male juvenile offenders; and the other provides support services, counseling, vocational classes, and referral services for women about to be released. Programs are also presented for the District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. A substance abuse pre- release program in Canada is also included. The programs encompass all types of correctional services, including drug abuse treatment, behavioral modification, life skills training, sex offender treatment, and pre-release and postrelease programs.
