STUDY OF THE WORKINGS OF THE FINANCIAL BAIL SYSTEM BASED ON OBSERVATION OF THE ACTIVITIES OF BAIL BONDSMEN IN THE CRIMINAL COURTS OF TWO CITIES IN THE SAME WESTERN STATE.
Abstract
STUDY EXAMINES HOW THE BAIL SYSTEM LINKS THE BUSINESS INTERESTS OF THE BONDSMEN WITH THE ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF CRIMINAL COURT OPERATIONS. IT ALSO REVIEWS CRITICISMS OF THE BAIL SYSTEM AND EXAMINES WHY THE SYSTEM HAS RETAINED ITS HISTORIC IMPORTANCE IN THE SCHEME OF AMERICAN CRIMINAL JUSTICE DESPITE MORE THAN A DECADE OF EFFORT TO REPLACE IT WITH MORE RATIONAL AND EQUITABLE ARRANGEMENTS.
