The distinguishing of different electronic printing fonts is an important step when examining criminal cases that involve questioned documents that have been printed electronically; this study shows that distinctions of printing units can be found by identifying the Chinese font library in a number of aspects.
Abstract
The Chinese font library is the origin of the Chinese characters in an electronic printing system. The font library is an important part of the electronic Chinese typewriter, the Chinese character disk operating system on computers, and other electronic publishing systems. The distinction of printing units can be found by identifying the Chinese font library in six aspects: first, by the structure of the font in the library, such as lattice, vector, and curve; second, by the typeface involved in the font library, such as Song typeface, imitation Song dynasty style type face, Block letter, Boldface, etc.; third, by the matrix size of lattice font in the library; fourth, by the particular character pattern of the same typeface in different fonts in the library; fifth, by the defects of characters of fonts in the library; and sixth, by the self-making characters in fonts in the library. These features of font libraries allow for the easy differentiation of various questioned documents printed in different kinds of Chinese operating systems. This can be easily accomplished when they appear in a document as a stable pattern. 3 figures and 2 references
