AGENCY OPERATIONS FOR 1973, COVERING FINANCIAL CONDITION, CASES PROCESSED, COMMUNITY BENEFITS AND FUTURE OPERATIONS.
Abstract
THE AGENCY, AS AN INFORMATION GATHERING ARM FOR BOTH THE SUPERIOR COURT AND FEDERAL COURT SYSTEMS, CONDUCTS INTERVIEWS WITH ALL ARRESTEES PROCESSED THROUGH THE COURTS OR REFERRED AS CITATIONS, AND ISSUES BAIL REPORTS INCLUDING BACKGROUND AND RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERNING PRE-TRIAL RELEASE, A TOTAL OF 22,162 INTERVIEWS WERE CONDUCTED IN 1973, AND OF THOSE WITH SET RELEASE CONDITIONS, 71 PERCENT WERE NONFINANCIAL. AGENCY SUPERVISION OF RELEASED DEFENDANTS IS DESCRIBED, AND FIGURES FOR NONAPPEARANCE IN COURT AND REARRESTS ARE GIVEN. BENEFITS TO THE COMMUNITY SUCH AS DECREASED PAYMENTS TO BONDSMEN AND DECREASED DETENTION COSTS ARE CITED. APPENDIXES INCLUDE THE BAIL AGENCY STATUTE, SOOURCES OF ACTIVITY OF THE AGENCY, AND TABLES AND DISCUSSION ON THE CITATION PROGRAM, CASES OF COURT NONAPPEARANCE, CONDITIONS OF SUPERVISION, AND REARRESTS.
