Abstract
Data on budget and finance address the operating budget, capital budget, and defender services. Data and information on the Court of Appeals lists the judges of the court, presents a report by the chief judge, and reports data on significant decisions of the court in 2005. Court of Appeals statistics cover filings by category and ratio to dispositions for 2001-2005; dispositions by method, 2001-2005; motions and petitions, 2001-2005; time on appeal, 2001-2005; bar admissions, 2001-2005; and bar disciplinary actions, 2001-2005. Information on the Superior Court lists the judges and the magistrate judges and presents a report by the chief judge. Statistics address court case activity for 2005 and the following data for 2001-2005: new case filings, case dispositions, and pending caseloads. Superior Court case activity for 2005 is also distinguished by court divisions. These are the Civil Division, the Criminal Division, the Domestic Violence Unit, Family Court operations, Family Court social services, Multi-Door Dispute Resolution, the Probate Division, and the Special Operations Division. A section on court reporting activity presents the following data for 2001-2005: transcript production by reporters, transcript production from recordings, and transcript production. The courts continued to change the trial court's case management system from a legacy system to the new courtwide Integrated Justice Information System (IJIS). IJIS implementation was completed in the Civil Division during 2005 and the Criminal Division in January 2006. This has enhanced the exchange of information among the District's criminal justice agencies. Services and outreach to the public included a reading and literacy program for children under court supervision and participation in public forums that involve neighborhood groups and other District agencies.
