Achievements of and statistics on District of Columbia (D.C.) courts are cited in this 1992 annual report, and the administrative structure and operations of D.C. courts are described.
Abstract
Court achievements focus on the work of the Joint Committee, created as part of the D.C. Court Reform and Criminal Procedure Act; task forces on racial, ethnic, and gender bias; renaming of the D.C. Courthouse, judicial representation on the District of Columbia Retirement Board, the work of the Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct, and enforcement of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The administrative structure of the D.C. Court of Appeals and D.C. Superior Court is described. Court of Appeal statistics are provided on court filings, dispositions, motions, and petitions and on bar admissions and disciplinary actions. Superior Court statistics are tabulated for court filings, criminal activity, felony preindictments, criminal jury trials, criminal pleas, civil activity, civil dispositions, jury and nonjury trials, and juvenile referrals. Data are also provided on Superior Court activities pertaining to landlord and tenant matters, small claims, domestic relations, abuse and neglect, paternity and support, mental health and retardation, marriage, probate, special operations, and dispute resolution. Finally, court system statistics are included that characterize the Social Services Division and the Court Reporting Division of District of Columbia Courts.
