Abstract
THIS REPORT IS THE CULMINATION OF TASK ONE OF A COMPREHENSIVE PROJECT TO DEVELOP A DATA IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR CORRECTIONS MANAGEMENT AND PLANNING FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. TO CARRY OUT THIS TASK, CONSULTANTS VISITED EACH OF THE OPERATING INSTITUTIONS WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND MADE A SURVEY OF RECORD-KEEPING FUNCTIONS WITH A SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON THE ROLE OF AUTOMATIC DATA PROCESSING (ADP) EQUIPMENT IN THE COLLECTION AND RECORDING OF SUCH INFORMATION. INFORMATION WAS ALSO OBTAINED ON THE FLOW OF DATA AND THE ACTUAL FORMS USED IN THE PROCESS. THIS REPORT CONTAINS A DETAILED DISCUSSION OF THE ACTUAL OPERATING LEVEL DATA COLLECTION SYSTEMS, BROKEN DOWN BY UNIT. A SUMMARY REVIEW OF ADP FUNCTIONS WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT AS EMBODIED BY CRYSIS IS ALSO PRESENTED. FINALLY, A SET OF DATA-COLLECTION-ORIENTED RECOMMENDATIONS IS PROVIDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
