Abstract
Representative E. De La Garza (Texas) supports the proposal for the addition of another division in the District Court for the Southern District of Texas to help relieve travel costs and inconvenience. Testimony by Representative Mrazek (New York) supports H.R. 5619, which would establish a Federal court facility in Hauppauge, N.Y. Testimony by a representative of the Judicial Conference indicates support for some, but not others, of the proposed court reorganizations. The bills supported by the Judicial Conference pertain to court reorganization in Illinois, Texas, Louisiana, New York, Colorado, and Vermont. Bills not supported pertain to reorganizations in Georgia, New Jersey, and Kentucky. The Judicial Conference does not favor H.R. 3919, which would eliminate the $10,000 amount-in-controversy requirement, due to its potential for increasing court caseloads. A representative of the U.S. Department of Justice presents testimony substantially in agreement with the representative of the Judicial Conference. A representative of the Shippers National Freight Claim Council, Inc., testifies in support of H.R. 3919. Legislative and additional materials appended.
