Abstract
BETWEEN 1969 AND 1974 THERE WAS A 30 PERCENT NATIONAL INCREASE IN THE RATE OF THEFTS. THIS, MANY BELIEVE, IS SYMPTOMATIC OF A GENERAL TREND TOWARD THE WEAKENING OF TRADITIONAL VALUES AND FAMILY TIES. MOBILITY, OPPORTUNITY FOR CRIME, AND LIFESTYLES HAVE ALL CHANGED IN THE LAST 50 YEARS, AND SOME PANELISTS ON THE TAPE BELIEVE THIS IS A DETERMINING FACTOR.
