This report monitors the Delaware Department of Corrections inmate population forecast from December 31, 1990 to June 30, 1992; it describes the total corrections population and the detained (pretrial), jail (sentences 1 year and less), and prison (sentences greater than 1 year) sub-populations.
Abstract
Admissions for the second quarter of 1992 were 3,332 or 37 below the forecasted 3,369. The inmate population at the end of the quarter was 3,959 or 155 above the forecasted 3,801. Drug admissions were 9.7 percent above forecast; the drug population was 17.4 percent above forecast. Detention admissions for the quarter were 2,033 or 239 lower than the forecasted 2,272. The population at the end of the quarter was 556 or 177 lower than the forecasted 733. The average length of stay for the quarter was 30 days, or 2.1 percent longer than the 29.4-day average for the 24-month period of 1989 through 1990. Jail admissions for the quarter were 1,002 or 153 higher than the forecasted 849. The population at the end of the quarter was 796 or 57 above the forecasted 739. Prison admissions for the quarter were 297 or 49 higher than the forecasted 248. The population at the end of the quarter was 2,604 persons or 275 above the forecasted 2,323. 4 tables and 4 figures
