This document outlines the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority's effort to develop comprehensive profiles of the extent and nature of drug and violent crime and the criminal justice system's response in each of the State's 102 counties.
Abstract
The report includes an overview of the development of county-level criminal justice system profiles and steps in developing jurisdiction-specific profiles of criminal justice system activities. These profiles can assist agencies with drug and violent crime control program development, monitoring, assessment and evaluation. In addition, they can provide local agencies with background information and data to help identify funding sources, such as discretionary grants. Understanding the unique nature of crime at the local level will help both policymakers and members of the public obtain a clearer understanding of crime in their communities, rather than basing opinion on national, State or large-city news reports.
