THIS MARIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, TASC PROGRAM WAS DEVELOPED TO IDENTIFY THOSE OFFENDERS WHO WERE DRUG ABUSERS AND TO DIVERT THEM INTO TREATMENT PROGRAMS.
Abstract
THE EVALUATION FOCUSED ON THREE COMPONENTS: 1) THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CORE PROGRAM IN REDUCING THE INCIDENCE OF DRUG USE AND DRUG RELATED CRIME; 2) THE EVALUATION OF STAFF BEHAVIOR THROUGH THE SUBMISSION OF CONFIDENTIAL QUESTIONNAIRES TO PROFESSIONAL AND CLIENT GROUPS; AND 3) A STUDY OF THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE VARIOUS PROGRAMS WITHIN THE SYSTEM. THE CONCLUSIONS WERE THAT ALL OF THE 150 TASC CLIENTS HAD BECOME AND REMAINED FREE OF DRUG USE. DESPITE AN AVERAGE OF 5 CONVICTIONS BEFORE ENTERING THE PROGRAM, OVER 90 PERCENT OF TASC CLIENTS HAD NO FURTHER ARRESTS. THE TASC STAFF WAS PERCEIVED TO BE VERY EFFECTIVE, AND THERE WAS UNANIMOUS AGREEMENT THAT THE SEMI-AUTONOMOUS PROGRAMS WERE NEEDED AND THAT THEY WERE COORDINATED....MSP
